How much do YOU spend on makeup?

image

MintLife just posted this amazing makeup infographic on how much (women, mostly) spend on cosmetics.

The number seem spot on (has anyone gotten out of Sephora for less than $40?) and they have good tips on splurge vs. save. However, we still think the best way to save on makeup is to only buy the best products, with beauty recommendations from your friends—and that’s what Trainca.se is all about!

What about you? How do you save on makeup & beauty?

My Trainca.se – Lilly Neubauer

image

On the pretty, we like to feature real Trainca.se members and the beauty products they can’t live without. This week our friend Lilly Neubauer of Pancakes & Beet Juice shares her must-have beauty products, with a special focus on the natural and eco-friendly. We’re a huge fan of Lilly’s blog and are already obsessed with some of the products she’s recommended. Enjoy!

Whether it is through listing new finds and favorites my blog, Pancakes and Beet Juice, or connecting women to artisans around the world as a Noonday Collection style ambassador, I love sharing new finds that make it easy for women like me to discover ways to shop that make the world a better place. I’m addicted to loading all my go-to beauty products into my Trainca.se, including these environmentally friendly (and budget friendly, too!) beauty must haves:

Aztec Healing Clay

This clay mask is a miracle worker. I have seen a huge difference in my skin after beginning to use this 1-2 times a week. The first time I tried it was definitely an adventure! Now even my husband is hooked on unlocking the Aztec jujus.

L’Oreal Everpure Volume Shampoo

When I started seeing my new hair stylist, she begged me to switch to sulfate free shampoo. Thanks to this option, it wasn’t an expensive commitment and I feel like I have completely new hair, not to mention I am keeping harsh phosphates out of our water supply. This is also a vegan formula that is not tested on animals – extra do-gooding points!

Neutrogena Fresh Cleansing and Makeup Remover

Since my sulfate free shampoo experiment went so well, I looked for sulfate free face wash. Mid-day oily patches are gone with this cleanser and my skin is clear and feels more balanced. A recycled plastic bottle and the ultra-adorable Kristen Bell as a spokesperson add to my love for this inexpensive but effective product.

Tarte Smooth Operator Natural Oil Free Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20

I am more impressed with what this tinted moisturizer doesn’t have in it – no parabens, synthetic fragrances or phthalates (if I can’t pronounce it, it probably shouldn’t go on my skin). I love it for outdoorsy projects in the summer where you want some coverage but don’t need a heavy makeup.

Smith’s Rosebud Salve

This has been my forever favorite, and I love that it comes in a tube now since hot Texas summers melt my tin lip balm containers together. Since it’s just petroleum jelly and cotton seed oil I feel safe dabbing it on my eyelids too.

Want! Josie Maran Argan Day + Night Eye Cream

I love the “want” feature on Trainca.se so I can make a list of what I actually should spend on when I have a little extra cash flow (or be fully prepared for if I ever win the lottery). A strong eye cream made from organic Argan oil, with different formulas for day and night in one pretty package, sits high atop my list for when my ship comes in.

Jessica Chastain
While we love the natural, pretty look Jessica has been wearing on the red carpet this season, we’re hoping that she dons a sexier, more powerful look when she arrives at the Oscar’s this year. After playing a power agent in the CIA for Zero Dark 30, we think she deserves a power red for her lips (and equally intimidating waves), don’t you?
